Reception on this phone is the problem for me - when you hold it in your hand you block the signal getting to the antenna resulting in terrible call quality.
I cannot believe NOKIA placed an antenna at the bottom of the phone
I have just switched back to my good old E51

> In reply to Original_Jamaican @ 2009-11-24 15:59 from ReEuman I must have been really tired, my grammar sucked on those last few posts.

E52 also doesn't drop as long as you're within city limits, outside of it.... well cell range will be the factor.

I might buy an E51 as MY christmas present. =P

Anyway, Advanced Merry Christmas!

Later peeps!

To EVERYONE:

Well it seems the MADE BY NOKIA version of E52 seems to be perfectly built compared by the Finnish and Korean ones.

All of the complaints I have seen so far is from the Finland made and Korean made E52. Strange.

I simply told my business contact that I don't care which region it's from I just want an authentic one and thankfully, here in my country, the Nokia phones sold are from reputable vendors and are all authentic so I have nothing to worry about.

E52 may very well be my Christmas gift.

The E51 has a powerful transmitting antenna. I have had the E51 for one year and four months (second longest Nokia I ever had behind 6230 - 2years)and within that time, as far as I can remember, only twice the signal strength fell below full bars.

Here's an excerpt from Mobile-Review.com:

"The SAR value for the E51 is 1.4 W/kg. The last thing we would like to do in this write-up is dispel a myth about this phone’s high SAR – it is not caused by the E51’s increased transmitter power, or cutting-edge technologies for better reception quality."

So TRF as you can see, the E51 indeed has a very powerful antenna.

That may be one of the reasons why many people have said the E51 is the true successor to the 6210/6310/6310i business phones...and you know the legendary touting of these phones to be the best business phones of Nokia...before the birth E51.

TRF thank you for your 2 cents. It's always appreciated.

I will give my full review and thoughts about E52 once it's in my hands and it will be compared directly against E51 seeing that the E52 is the successor of E51.

Are you sure the E52 camera captures photos faster than the E51 because in standard mode my E51 captures photos in 1 sec. no more no less. while in night mode (which is always slower on any phone) it captures photos in 2 1/2 secs. These aren't guesses, these are tested results.

My previous phone, the 6300, captured photos 3 - 5 secs. in standard mode so I was amazed by the E51's speed of 1 sec...but then again the 6300's photo quality was better so advantages and disadvantages are everywhere with these phones.

By the looks of things you are telling me the E52 captures photos in about 1/2 sec. in standard mode because that has to be the case if it's faster than E51.

Has been using E52 for about 5 weeks and have both good and bad experiences. And to said it right at the beginning some of "not good" fuss about E52 is true.

Good things:
- Fast browsing
- Battery life
- Look and shape
- all other spec. (GPS,3.5mm audio,..)

Bad things:
- Call keys are buried, they are dificult to press without looking at the phone
- Calling from noisy enviroment gets your voice sometimes completly blocked (I move around some metalic workshops)
- The ear-piece on my unit is somehow broken, there is crepitate noise when calling (I have sent the phone for repair so we see result)
- Front cover is not fitting very well (even squeaks), but I can live with that
- Sometimes it takes ages to get from "power saving mode" to lit up the display, even "Nokia startup" screen is sometimes shown. Maybe it supposet to be like that, not sure.

And finaly, I agree that there are some SW issues but my unit has some HW problem too. I noticed a "burn out" between battery and phone PCB. Its located over top right corner of Nokia label exactly on 4 rows of "gold squares" for some conector or whatever it is. And for those who knows something about electronics it looks like some chip got really hot on the other side of PCB.

Has anyone bought the black version of the E52 yet? These are now recently available in some regions, and wondering if these models are 2nd batch, they may have the new hardware / bug fixes...?

Hey OJ,

I think the E51 is very good phone, my cousin has that and for it's purpose as a good durable reliable phone the E52 really has nothing on that... unless you're going for the other 'modern' features.

Even out of the city where there are few cell sites it still has a very good signal quality or maybe his GSM provider is just better. dunno. ^_^

-----------

I'm also think of getting the E51 white (not silver black) from Europe as a secondary phone.

Looks stylish and the build quality looks marvelous.

-----------

E52 is a good phone but so is the E51.

Also some people complain about E52 'issues'... well.

E51 is still a great phone, anyway thought I'd just give my 2 cents. ^_^

> In reply to Original_Jamaican @ 2009-11-24 00:40 from ReEuI'm not really good about acoustics. But I do prefer to sound of the E51's speaker. E51's speaker sounds more solid.

I would recommend the E52 over the E51 but with the exception of build quality. The E52 may be okay. But the E51 was just built incredibly well and is solid to hold. The E52 feels... delicate.

It takes around 2hrs, 10mins to charge when turned off.

I find it hard to tell if the E52's ringing volume is really lower than E51 but it seems that way.

I rarely use the camera and camcorder. But it captures pics a lot faster than the E51. I can't comment on the quality, I'm not good with that matter also.

From what many users say in this forum, as well at at Nokia forums, E52 is an unfinished phone.

I do hope that the problems with E52 are of software nature. Though, at least GSM antenna location leave doubt about the design.

The major problems this phone has are of fundamental nature:
- voice call quality
- GSM reception.

The rest, even if they are good, are of second imprtance for a phone.

In addition to the problems I have explained here, I have pointed out that signal bars are full in standby. However, they drop by 2-3 bars while in call (without changing the location). So, the signal bars in standby are false, or the signal really drops while in call (then, the phone has FW issues).

GSMArena's review says the E52's audio quality is the best of the family...strange to hear you find the E51's quality is 'cleaner'. I have always found the E51's audio to be nice...maybe not as nice as phones like the 6300 which isn't a smart phone but reasonable enough to contend with many phones.

MUADIPH hands down, would you advise anyone to choose an E52 over E51 as a better upgrade ?

Also, when the battery runs out could you leave the phone in OFF MODE and charge it and tell me how long it takes to charge ?

My E51 charges in 1 hr. 25 mins. which is absolutely perfect. I know the E52 has a higher capacity battery so I don't expect the charging time to be as short as E51 but just perform this task for me and let me know please.

You never answered a few of my questions from my previous post.

1. How do you find the ringing volume ?

2. How do you find the camera and camcorder ?

Thanks for sharing.

> In reply to Original_Jamaican @ 2009-11-23 23:44 from ReEuThe battery lasts about 4 days with approx. 3hours of 3g browsing, 2hours of music, and lots of sms, per day.

I rarely make or receive calls. But from the few that I've done, both volume and quality are good.

The speaker volume during music playback is lower than the E51. If E51's volume is a 10, the E52 would be an 8. The E51 also sounds 'cleaner'
Using the supplied earphones, sound quality and volume are just about the same.
